Reading a little bit more about it, it seems he was originally charged with attempted first degree murder, but the jury instead indicted him on assault. I guess it comes down to what charge is most likely to gain a conviction and not be successfully appealed.

Even with a gun, shot at someones head. Of course, that could have just been a misaimed warning shot, from someone with exemplary military experience...

Of course, if he does break the law again he has to serve the remainder of his suspended sentence. And he has to go on anger management training too, so that's alright then.

I'll bet you if the shooter had have been black he would have faced stronger charges and have got way longer in jail.

I can't fathom the logic.....

The cyclist is endangering a three year old by cyling with him in a chid seat..... how does shooting the cyclist make the child's journey safer?

There is no logic in a sociopathic tendency.

it's the mitigation I love, just the idea that, having a bad day, can excuse shooting someone in the head.

If he'd been black they'd have been more likely to try and rewrite the law to give them a chance to put him on death row.

Goodness knows what the Daily Mail headlines would have been for the next month, and the once reputable Panorama would have reshown some of their knife and gun crime takes to make the point; generally this is the only time they feel compelled to make up their 'diversity' quotas by swinging the pendulum the other way and over-representing the black youth in 'urban areas'.

Which is my second problem... how does this behaviour fit in with the upstanding citizen portrayed in the courts

My fear is that it is only a matter of time before something else sparks him off
