Cyclist Taken Out By Turning Car NYC

The bike flips a fair few times.
Hope he gets well soon.
Cyclist was taken to the hospital via ambulance with a separated shoulder and concussion.

American is not fab at equality when it comes to minorities. Plus the motor association is ridiculously powerful much like the gun lobby. They have plenty of politicians in their pocket to toy with government.

HOW did the driver not see the oncoming bike? Very scary!! Poor sod, I hope they are ok.

The car was driving towards the sun and then coming into shade where the bike was. If the rider was wearing dark clothing it could have been difficult for the driver to see him.

What was also surprising to me was why the cyclist did not steer right when the car was coming at him. There was lots of space on the right. Possibly target fixation. If you look at it you will probably hit it.

Clearly the cars fault though. This footage may help the cyclist.

He chose to brake rather than turn from the seems of it. Full brake and then turning on a bike is only going to guarantee you hit the ground whether the car hits you or not.

You could be right about the sun mate, but still it's a bad tumble.

No doubt about it. Someone did that to me when I was on a motorbike. I ended up with both my arms broken and my right leg broken. I was traveling at about the same speed as that bike. You certainly fly in slow motion when it happens.

You're right about the braking thing. That happened to me about six months ago. I had to brake real sharp whilst turning away from a car and I went over the bars at an angle. Dislocated my shoulder and cracked two ribs. At the time I carried on with my journey straight after(god knows how) but it was straight to A and E that night.

If you repeatedly pause the footage from just before impact you see the cyclists does a summersault parting company with his bike and lands on his head and knees whilst bike continues on summersaulting down the road. Chilling. I hope cyclist lived or was not seriously injured. US seems just as crap for cycling as UK but compensation in civil law is far more generous than UK.
