Cyclist v bus

I'm an experienced driver in central London but a novice cyclist.

This morning I saw a lady on a fixed speed moving up the inside of slow moving traffic. The cyclist on front of her undertook a double decker bus. As the bus was approaching a narrowing crossing and bus stop he indicated left. The cyclist proceed to continue to undertake the bus even thougyh she was behind him when he started indicating. As the bus started moving over to the elft (it had to as the crossing had a central reservation) he beeped the horn as he must have seen the cyclist now half way up his inside. The cyclist then slowed somewhat and eventually the bus nudged the cyclists handlebars causing her to wobble.

She then overtook the bus at the next bustop to have a go at him.

The cyclist seemed suicidal but as I am a novice rider, I am not sure that she was in the wrong. Should the bus have slowed down for her? My feeling is that she was behind, the bus indicated and she should not have undertaken.

If so, should I have said something to her becuase I would imagine that every incident like this undermines 10 where the bus driver was in the wrong.

Should read "Moron of a cyclist attempts suicide, gets angry when attempt fails"

Strictly speaking the bus should have slowed and waited for the cyclist but only because she had put herself in a position to give him no choice but to either potentially hit her or stop and let her pass.

both are wrong here. it doesn't mean that driver indicated he can proceed. bus driver is a bully or most probably more of frustration towards the cyclist. cyclist tries to push her way through but can't really bully a bus..

If I'd been in your position I might well have had a go at her.

Undertaking any moving vehicle is suicidal, passing any large vehicle on the inside even if it's stationary is also suicidal.

Going up the inside of stationary vehicles when they're small with good all-round vision, even if there's a cycle lane, needs to be approached with care and extreme scepticism over the attentiveness and competence of the drivers.

That's the case anywhere, not just in London. There are just more opportunities for cyclist suicides in London.

No, cyclist is wrong.

The OP states the bus was already indicating and the cyclist was behind at that point. You should not overtake, or undertake, unless it is safe to do so. Clearly a bus indicating left is going to move left, so it would be unsafe to pass on the left.

This is the reason I never undertake vehicles, unless they are clearly positioned to turn right.

Unfortunately in a city like london you will get nowhere doing that.
Undertaking is always going to be a part of city cycling and it seems that some people take unnecessary risks.

The cyclist was clearly an idiot to attempt such a manoeuvre.
However I despair at the behaviour of the bus driver who had seen her, but still moved over, deliberately endangering her.

you don't know the bus 'deliberately moved over', it was after all stopping at a bus stop after already having had a bile undertake, OP does suggest that the cyclist continued to undertake despite the bus being already pulled over to some degree, she may simply have run out of space, they certainly had no business being there at all, let along trying to finish such an idiotic manouvre

I find buses A1 these days

The OP said that the bus beeped, having presumably seen the cyclist in the mirrors, but then continued to move over until the bus clipped the cyclist's handlebars.
