Cyclists collectively scored 70 per cent in Road Safety Week quiz compared to 58 per cent of drivers

Cyclists have a better knowledge of road safety than drivers, a study has found.

A Cambridge law firm, Irwin Mitchell, quizzed 7,000 people on the issue as part of Road Safety Week and the results reveal that much of the population is well versed in correct road etiquette and the laws – though there is still a large number who are unaware of correct behaviour.

Of the eight questions asked, however, cyclists scored 70 per cent correctly with drivers scoring only 58 per cent.

The results demonstrate, according the law firm’s partner Neil Whiteley, that “there is a need for motorists in particular to be more aware about the rules governing cyclists on UK roads.”

He added: “Often there are issues between road users which may arise from a lack of understanding about the correct approach or rules that apply to each other.”

How did you do?

I just got 75%, but I'm unfamiliar with the UK road rules, so was just using a bit of common-sense!

I did worse than that - 50% as I got myself tangled up in the technicalities. Still I know what the right thing was just not which answer matched up with it!

I was thrown by the cycling on the pavement questions, since they failed to take into account the shared use signs loved by councils everywhere, I think this question is more about semantics rather than what people think a pavement is.
Yes I fell for the council traffic order diversion and I fell down on the semantics on the ASL one too!

75%. I also got the riding on pavements wrong and also the passengers on bikes wrong too

I got one wrong. Probably the passenger one.

No, it was the pavement one. Still, somehow or other, I managed to score 112.5%, which appears to indicate that of 8 questions I got 9 correct:wacko:

Got the asl one "wrong" because it asks when cyclists may cross the stop line, not when they may bypass the stop line by use of a feeder lane.

The pavement question was badly worded too I thought, but I guessed that one right
