As always, I like to make lengthy clear eye contact that will usually elicit a smile and a "hello", but timed right, I'll be looking away by then. I can do it all the way from Leeds to Skipton and it cheers me up no end.

I think those that don't say hello are the same idiots who don't wear helmets.

Don't care about anything or anyone.
There is no downside to saying hello.... that I know of?

It's acknowledging someone I don't know, don't want to know and who probably believes there's a brotherhood of cyclists. I always naively hope that by not waving or saying hello, I chip away at this belief a little. Give me a 100 years and I can probably normalise them.

So you say it when walking to the shops?
Yes. But then I live in a wee town where most people know and care about each other; not that impersonal concrete ghetto sh*thouse of a place that you have put as your location :okay:.
I do believe that is the crux of the matter; on my rides in rural areas where you don't normally see people, I will acknowledge everyone - hikers, dog walkers, AND other cyclists. To me it is just manners when you see another human being in isolation like that. Big cities though? No, that's for Crocodile Dundee.
