Czech Republic - which type of camping gas cartridges are sold?

Hi - Am planning my next cycle touring trip, to the Czech Republic. We'll be flying in, so won't be able to take gas cylinders for a camping stove with us. I'm aware that in some countries it can be hard to get certain types of camping gas cylinders, does anyone know which sorts are readily available in the Czech Republic? We'll be flying into Prague, so can stock up there.

I have an MSR Windpro Stove, which takes the spin-on removable gas cartridges (e.g. Coleman), not the blue pierce-able Camping Gaz ones. I also have a Trangia, but would prefer not to have to mess around with Meths, and my MSR setup is lighter. If the spin-on gas cyclinders are hard to find, I could borrow a friend's Camping Gaz stove, though.

I'd take a remote canister/preheat stove like your MSR Windpro, or this Karrimor, plus a screw to Camping Gas Click Valve adapter. That allows 2 of the 4 sorts of camping gas canisters, plus the long thin cartridges used for blowtorches etc. The pierceable canisters are starting to get harder to find as the stoves are no longer allowed under EU safety regs, so an adapter for those probably isn't worth while.
If need be, you can always make a meths stove out of a couple of Pepsi cans or similar.

The valve adaptor sounds like a good idea, I may invest in one...

Meths stove is also a good idea, seeings how it doesn't cost anything. A good backup, and, outside some parts of the US, ( where people making meths stove and setting fire to forest and campground alike seems to be a fear in the back of every park ranger's mind) seems quite an acceptable alternative. go to YouTube, use the keywords "Alcohol Stove", find out more than you ever wanted to know.

I do have a Trangia Stove too (the smaller of the standard kits), though it's heavier and bulkier than my MSR WindPro + MSR Titanium pans setup and I find meths more fiddly and messy to deal with and slow to boil when you just want to heat some water for a coffee etc., so would prefer to use gas, if possible, though I do have a gas adaptor for my Trangia too, so I guess that would potentially give me both options.

Is that because the pierce-able style Camping Gaz cylinders are the easiest to find in CZ? I prefer the spin-on type, if possible, as are safer when you check the stove back in the pannier, and takes up less space

I've got one of those, works a treat. Don't know about CZ but puncture type canisters are the most widely available and by far the cheapest in France & Spain.

There are a number of outdoor specialty shops in Prague, which stock all main gas canister types. Hudy Sport is one chain but in all honesty, I don't imagine that you will have a problem finding the Coleman type.

you can get both types - Blue Gaz is more common -
Sports stores for the threaded - big one in the central mall in Prague
Sport stores, Gun/Fishing shops (best place to look - they like fishing and guns) for the blue
Puncture type in hardware shops

I've never been to the czech republic, but I remember going to france with a stove that took the spin-on cartridges a some years ago. We tried hypermarkets, camping shops, even petrol stations and you couldn't buy the things for love nor money. It was Campingaz cartridges or nothing.

Maybe the spin-on ones are more widely available now, who knows. But I imagine campingaz cartridges would be a bit more universal generally. They certainly seem to sell them in every large supermarket in France and Spain, so I don't see why that wouldn't be replicated across some of eastern europe.

No - its just a function of where you are - the screw on type are more common in Scandinavia - Germany France is camping gas
