quick question for the regular DAB listeners... anyone else getting frequent 'squelchy' interference?

It lasts maybe half a second and occurs maybe once every half hour or hour. I've noticed it on two of my three DAB radios in recent weeks and it's getting slightly annoying.

I've noticed on my DAB car radio over the past fortnight that every so often a couple of words get repeated. I first observed it when in the hills in rural Wales but have noticed it since. What is odd is that I never notice any words being omitted so the radio can 'catch up'. Probably something else entirely but just thought I would lob it in as a downside of DAB.

I've noticed whole shows getting repeated on radio 4 :okay:

Are in in your car or house? It could be electrical interference from something like a boiler kicking in, or a refrigerator compressor starting.
House.

I notice it most in the lounge and figured it might just be an issue with that radio. But noticed it in the bedroom this morning which made me wonder if it's a transmission thing. It's something I've noticed more in recent weeks and have had the same sets in the same place in the same flat for many years now.

Could that be when your reception switches from one transmitter to another?

As a generalisation, DAB reception is poor in many areas.

I suspect you are permanently running on a low signal, so it doesn't take much interference - possibly atmospheric in this case - to cause the trademark DAB squelching.

DAB from an internal aerial is very hit and miss at Pale Rider Towers, as it is at my static caravan.

A roof mounted aerial has sorted the problem at home.

Depending on the radio it tells you if you have good signal or not. I have no issues with the bedroom Pure radio, or the Revu in the kitchen (LED lights permitting, the first set we tried cut the radio entirely), but the one in the lounge burbles/cuts out frequently. Not helped that it has a stupid little wire aerial I don't think; but also picks up interference from the desktop next to it (intermittently).

And if you have one of those daft non-rigid dangly ones? It's already trailing across a few picture frames in a vain attempt to improve the situation. I did look a while back for a replacement but concluded I didn't have the required vocab to search for it!

We had the same problem. Got the dab radio years ago, only ever used FM.

Cheers for the repleis.

The one in my lounge doesn't show signal strength but does show signal error. On a scale of 0-99, it was between about 8 and 20 (above 30 is bad according to manual). I've extended the aerial a bit and now the signal error is between 0 and 5. I'll just have to keep listening to see if it's actually improved things though.

Similar frustrations in my static.

I've all but given up.
