Anyone remember these from the sixties, floated on a cushion of air. They were great.

Well done.

We won't have another Dyson - we had ours on an extended guarantee and something would break on it each year. We've chucked it now, and bought a vax - light, powerful and a cable long enough to access the whole house from 1 plug socket. Added bonus is the motor unit comes away from the base for doing stairs and the car.

I have similar to this though it's a Hoover make. It's very powerful. So much that i cannot push the head on the carpet as the suction is just too much,so i have to pull the thing along the carpet. I know there are bits on the pipes that you can open up to let some pressure out which would make pushing slightly easier, but being tight i think 'like feck i am,i've paid for that suction'!

I had a friend who was a professional carpet cleaner. Not one of those guys that come round to your house and do it all for £100 or £20 a room off Facebook - he had £50k’s worth of kit in a custom transit.

He said the only machines to use on carpets are proper uprights with a brush bar - he said the suction power wasn’t important as as long as the dust/crap was airborne it was easy to suck up - it’s the beater bar that made all the difference. He used commercial machines (you can get commercial SEBO’s which are very similar to the home ones, just wider) that had 2 motors, the most powerful one was for the brush bar.

Solid floors - any machine will do! That’s why cordless ones are so popular as carpets have gone out of fashion a bit but there’s no match for a decent corded machine on a plush carpet.

We have a vax lookalikee of a Dyson for indoors, but it isn't that great for cleaning the car, as it tends to fall over when you are reaching inside the car with the corrugated hose.
A few months back, I was sorting out some stuff to take to the tip, and a neighbour asked if I would take some stuff for her. Some old plant pots and a vacuum cleaner. A Hitachi one, with a broken join where the hose joins onto the tube which holds the brush attachment.
I couldn't resist fixing/bodging it, making good the broken join with a bit of bicycle inner tube. It worked fine.
I asked her if she would like it back, but she said no, as she had already bought a new machine for indoors, and her husband had got a cordless handheld vacuum for the car and the shed. So now I have a really good Hitachi for the car and to tidy up the mancave. Result!

I was at my local car showroom where they have a couple of washing bays and a massive vacuum cleaner machine for public use, the massive door on the front of the vacuum cleaner was open and there was a little Henry hoover sitting inside the box:laugh:

I don’t think there’s anything better for home use for cleaning a car than a Henry. I have a Bertie which is the same but a bit bigger and it’s amazing for the car as the hose is so long.
It’s great for DIY as well as you appear to be able to suck up bricks and plaster dust all day long and Henry just looks at you and goes “yeah, so what?”
