The thread title brought this to mind... Some custard powder my mum packed in a box of stuff for me when i moved down to London. She died not long afterwards but the custard's travelled from cupboard to cupboard between too many to count house and flat moves. I don't think I've ever made any custard up from it and it's a bit Alan Bennett or something but I think about her when I see it.

You've reminded me that we have a bottle of Port in the kitchen cupboard, it's a left over from our wedding reception 33 years ago, it has never been opened.

I have my grandad's tea/coffee mug. He died 43 years ago. It was the mug my mum made a brew for him in when he visited our old house. When her house was sold i rescued it and now keep it in a kitchen cupboard. Nobody's drunk out of that mug since 1972 and that's the way it'll stay.

Old fountain pen (given to me by my mum and doesn't work) and an old Sheffield made penknife and wind up watch owned by my grandfather. Also an old wristwatch that was my dads.

Living in another country now, don't know if it is different but do feel like I want to maintain a connection with loved ones.

1970 CTC diary. That's got sentimental value with all my rides for the year listed, but I've also got the repayments book for a Honda CB175 I bought new in 1974. Christ knows why I keep it, but I can never bring myself to thro it away.

I posted the following on another thread a while ago, so apologies if i add it again here.....

When my mum passed away 4 years ago, we said to my daughter that she could have any of mums jewellery - not that there was anything rare or valuable there. She chose two strings of plastic beads, that had literally come from somewhere like Woolworths, because my mum always wore one or other just about every day.

There was also a watch. A Timex so again not high value, but my daughter just liked it. But it wasnt working. "I will have to get a new battery for it" she said. "Let me have a look" said i, and with a few gentle actions of my thumb and first finger, i coaxed it back into life. My daughter had never owned a wind-up watch........

I've kept all the kids first, tiny, training shoes. I hang the right ones in my work van to remind me why I spend so much time grafting!

It's my copy of the Divine Office (or Liturgy of the Hours), which is the collection of prayers and texts used to mark the hours of the day. Those in religious life (e.g. priests, deacons, monks and nuns) use it to pray at regular times during the day (normally a minimum of three times a day - Morning, Evening and Night Prayer) and it is also sometime used by the laity as well.
Thank you.

Straight off the top of my head,2 items associated with my first year at University.A half pint glass tankard from the Freshers Beer Festival, and a mug from Halifax Hall,an all female residence at Sheffield University alas, long since closed and now a hotel.I was a member of Stephenson Hall, their counterpart, being all male. The girls of Halifax were so very dear to us!^_^

Well quite, just what I thought at the time,I expect.Mind you I was a young"mature student" and had actually had pints before,whereas...I wasn't sure about some of the other pink cheeked people. As an aside,I did quite well that week. The Frog & Parrot on Division St.brewed a beer,"Roger and Out" around 11% I think.Students were only served 3rds else mayhem may result,I however, got a pint as there was a fire station close by and given my evident maturity, they assumed that I was a fireman and gave me a pint.It was awful as I recall!
