I reported this to the Police. A driver of a BMW by the looks of things had just brought a new carpet and couldn't be bothered to get it delivered so instead they tied the carpet to the nearside of their car, completely obscuring their view in that direction.

Probably not the most dangerous obstruction on the roads, but he still cannot see out of his mirror.

You can see over the top of the carpet and legally you only need two mirrors. Which the driver I presume has.

But probably wouldn't be able to see any oncoming traffic if turning right and pull out in front of a cyclist or motorcyclist, seriously hurting them in the process.

I'd be very surprised if he could see much over that carpet, unless he's so tall that the top of his head is jammed against the roof of the car.

He'd certainly be able to 'lose' a child, or a vehicle coming from his left if he was turning out of a side road.

I'm fairly sure a traffic cop would take a very dim view of it.

I'm also sure the cops wouldn't be impressed, Its not the worst I've seen but its definetly dangerous. The worst one I saw had a driver with a plank of wood stuck a foot or more out of a side window.

I think (although I am not sure), but with the exception of a trailer, you aren't supposed to have anything attached to the vehicle that exceeds the horizontal dimensions of the vehicle. At least that's what I've always been careful to do when tying things to the roof rack of my car.

And yes, that carpet would easily fit inside the fool's car. I have a mondeo, probably about the same length as the car in that pic, and I can fit 10ft lengths of timber inside it! That carpet is significantly less than 10ft long ...

The last time i bought a carpet direct from a shop the bloke folded it up to the size of a suitcase and i put it in my escort boot,as long as you unfold it and then roll it back up there's no creases.!

A Mondeo might be a hatchback, that car looks like a saloon. Could you have fit it in without being able to use the boot?

Still stupid either way!
