Dashware, Chroma key (Greenscreen) and overlaying GPS data to Video.

Any Video buffs around?

I'm trying to over lay GPS data onto a video. Normally I'd use a Java script that creates a video of a greenscreen with dials over layed, and then videopad video editor that can cope with greenscreen overlays.

While it works OK, sometimes the greenscreen burns thru the dials. Also the process can be long winded.

So I went looking for an all in one package that would merge the GPS TCX data and Video in one.

Dashware looked the ticket. BUT.. While I get altitude giving readings, I don't get any speed. The TCX file (Endomondo) has speed data in the correct field. But in Dashware I get 0kph al the time.

Does anyone know if this is a feature of the trial version? Or I have a problem. Dashware's support seem's problematical, and I'm not gonna pay $50 to see if it is just a trial feature (seems silly though)

Also, does anyone know of another option to get TCX data and video in one?

Did you record the trip with a smart phone?
Can you post a snippet of the TCX file to see how endomodo is outputting it. I suspect that the data is not being recorded in nodes that dashware is looking for.

That's what I was thinking, but my free TCX to MOV program works correctly. Just very slowly. And yes it's a Android phone.

When I import the data to Strava it works.

Initially I was thinking it was a feature of the trial software, but if it is a feature, it's a stupid one, as it's stopping me purchase the software.

For a TCX file from my endomondo : www.lanzecki.co.uk/test.tcx It's the first time I've looked into one and I see no speed though.....

Comparing it to a garmin TCX file and it is missing something that might make a difference. The node DistanceMeters which may help with calculating speed.
You may want to try uploading the ride to a site like strava and then exporting it. Strava does some processing after the upload and you can export as a GPX (supported by dashware) and this may contain the information that is required for dashware to display speed.

If that doesn't work then there is an application developed for OS X which I think can be made to work on windows. It's free, and runs on JAVA, only problem is it's unsupported.

I think that's the same Java App I've used. It works fine, once you get used to the issues. And the need to do multiple steps.

I wasn't aware that strava allowed exports for non-paying users andas I pay for Endomondo I wasn't gonna pay for Strrava as well.

Problem solved, I exported a strava GPX file and it's all working. Thanks Gaz.

I checked the strava GPX export and it doesn't have anything different in it to an Endomondo TCX file that would make a difference.

I guess Dashware requires more from the TCX, as whilst the filename is the same, different devices / applications will write different data in there. I'm pleased that it has solved your issue.

Hey. I hate to pop up a 3 year old thread, but the issue us exactly the same and I was wondering if I could get some help.

Yesterday I tried both Dashware and Garmin VIBR and both of them failed to get speed out of my Endomondo TCX. The speed sometimes worked as it was 0 0 0 then 80mph.. 0 0 0 ...then 42 mph..0 0 0.. and so on.

I tried to import that to Strava and export it out, but still - no proper speed data.

Yesterday I walked in my balcony with Strava and it seemed to be okay with the software. Though the data seems to be the same format! Since its very expensive compared to Endomondo and I need HR - its out of my reach. I dont get what I am doing wrong really. It seems data points are for each second, so no power saving or anything. Both Endomondo and Strava shows speed graphs just fine.

3) strava import/export (importing tcx, exporting gpx)

4) strava balcony standalone test

I suppose in the end it's because of Endomondo giving scrap speed data? https://i.gyazo.com/6268dbd962fd8d9c062c7a9302ee0f7e.png
