Anyone else on here gone through the same thing?
Not me. However, one of my sisters is currently suffering the torments of emptying nest syndrome, as her still quite young eldest joined the Peace Corps and has been in Botswana for the better part of a year, with another to go.

Yea but you do. It's a dad thing. She'll be fine.

I don't. I used to fret about my three offspring not having a life as wild, reckless and carefree as mine. My oldest has finally climbed on board and joined his siblings this year by:

Cycling to Lewes from London to spend the weekend paragliding.
Rock climbing in France with three further visits planned.
Spending New Year in Berlin and getting shitfaced.
Planning to get shitfaced in the Isle of Man during his employer's glamping break.
Buggering off to Japan for three weeks with a girl that we've never met.

He needed a long runway to take off but now he's soaring.

@vernon i can indeed see how you were so worried that they'd be sensible, mature children. good to hear they're now getting plastered and doing risky stuff!  to them

In the good old days kids of six or seven used to be put on planes and ships alone, and looked after by the crew whilst being sent home to school from families in the colonies.

What a depressing day! My daughter and her boyfriend are off soon on a holiday to Tenerife. Being a worrier i'm not looking forward to her being miles from home for 10 days. Sh'e quite sensible and her boyfriend is from there so he speaks Spanish fluently and has a large family there. However i'll be worried about her doing daft teenager on holiday things like getting drunk and ending up where you shouldn't.It's the first time she's left home so it'll be a bit odd her not being here.

How is it a depressing day?

I think it's brilliant that she's spreading her wings.

Didn't you ever do anything exciting away from the family when you were young?
