Found what could be a date code on the brake arms , a circle with 08 or 80 in it . It has a head badge and slightly flared seat tubes and by "compact" do you mean sloping top tube, this has sloping top tube.

Indeed. I bought it in 1976 from a colleague at work who didn't want it any more. I gave him £25 for it.
The frame, fork, stem, bars, calipers, rear and front mech and rack are original.
Always loved the colour :-) Weinmann 630 wheels?
They are, but the large flange hub on the front went some years back.
The Brooks saddle was once owned by a famous CC member Vernon.
