I wrote the following email this morning to the CEOs of Endsleigh Insurance and British Gas/Dynorod.
I am waiting to be ignored...
Dear Sirs,
I am writing to you, as I am at my wit’s end.
I am the tenant from the ground floor flat in the above mentioned property. Both landladies (XXXXXXX – Ground floor flat who is insured with Endsleigh and XXXXXX - 1st floor flat, who is insured through British Gas have been dealing with this, but haven’t appeared to have had any success whatsoever)
Over 8 months ago, our drains became blocked and it became apparent that the immediate cause was that the previous tenant in the first floor property had been flushing baby wipes down the toilet, which had caused the blockage.
Dynorod were sent for and asked to remove the blockage. They used a tanker to remove the waste and then allegedly put a camera down the drain to see what the issue was.
We were then told that they needed to use a jet hose to clear the problem. They did so.
The next day (In APRIL), we discovered that every time we flushed the toilet, raw sewerage pour out of the outlet in the front garden and into the garden. Over the next few weeks, we then noticed an acrid smell coming from under the floor boards in the house.
We have been complaining repeatedly, but nothing has been done for many months.
Around eight weeks ago, the neighbours noticed that their cellar was flooded with waste water and this appeared to be coming in from our cellar area. Their housing association has refused to deal with this until our problem has been fixed, as the problem will reoccur in their estimation.
Our elderly next-door-neighbour has since experienced such bad damp, that she has now been hospitalised with respiratory problems (she only has one lung) and we are also experiencing appalling damp in our property, as well as the continuing stench, the fact that our water isn’t draining, our cellar being full of waste water/sewerage and our garden being two inches deep in faecal matter, which isn’t ideal for us, or the upstairs tenants who have two small children.
After many months of nothing happening, Dynorod came around with a camera (why they needed to do this again, when apparently they had already carried out this procedure, is a mystery to everyone) and have since decided that the blockage is actually due to roots in the drainage system.
Why didn’t they find this out the first time? My guess; they charged our landladies for a procedure they did not even carry out.
Now this has ” been referred to the insurance companies” (is this a euphemism for “We are ignoring the issue completely?) as it is a shared drainage system, although Endsleigh don’t appear to have received ANYTHING from British Gas/Dynorod about the problem, despite repeated requests.
Eventually, Dynorod were booked to come out again yesterday with a tanker to remove the excess sewerage. According to by next door neighbours, all they did was to dig a large hole in the front garden and decide that the drain had collapsed (Again – how was this not established when they “used their camera”?). Although they were quite happy to give our next door neighbours a detailed account of what was happening, they have failed to contact either of the landladies or us to let us know, as arranged.
The next-door-neighbours today informed me that they have contacted the Vanessa Feltz Radio show and have been asked to appear, re the health problems this has caused their mother, as a well as the local press. They are also seeking legal advice on suing all parties responsible for the drains.
Dynorod have had ample opportunity to diagnose the problem (surely they should have noticed a root in the drain pretty easily?), but it seems that all your engineers are interested in is finding the most expensive solution possible, whether or not it is appropriate and having spoken to other plumbers, your company are renowned for doing this.
I am sorry to resort to these measures, but I will shortly be forwarding the above information to BBC Watchdog, if the above situation is not rectified prior to the Christmas period. The lack of professionalism and basic knowledge displayed by your engineers, should interest them greatly, I think.
Many thanks
