The Alur 700 looks pretty stunning- Alu frame, carbon forks, 105 components and internal cable routing for £700 is going to throw my 'what bike next' spreadsheet right out of kilter! Also love the tucked away rear brake.

Shame there seems to be no pics of the 500SE, the new 300 is basically the old 5a (same as mine) but with microshift gears and not sora

Microshift is good stuff - the equivalent spec kit will easily be as good as Sora, of not better..

I wasnt sure about Microshift, doesnt seem to be a name you hear often (not that it means its rubbish)

I didnt have a choice with my 5a, it came with sora and for the money I'm impressed

Some of their frames have a lot of angles in them, and from my design technology of many moons ago I remember stress manifests itself in angles and corners.

Hope these don't go the same was as the De havilland Comet, which also suffered from stress in corners.

I have used microshift in the past and liked it, the LBS said it had a positive feel and i agree as i do find the entry level shimano stuff not positive enough for me .
I actually prefer the decathlon bikes to the new boardman range, boardmans used to be very well specced for the money but i think they are getting a bit more mainstream with their pricing.My road comp from 2 years ago came with sram apex but the 2014 model has 9 speed sora with what looks like a square taper BB and TBH i do not like the colour scheme for next years bikes.

Check out the weight of a Microshift Arsis rear mechanism and it's cost and suddenly it doesn't seem such a silly option. I have a mate who normally specs his bikes with Dura-ace or Super Record and rates Arsis highly. If they change their cable routing I would have no issue specing a build with it. Microshift is good value.

what was wrong with it?

It wouldn't shift between the chain rings, it was a real pain, I had several bike mechanics try and sort it / adjust it with no joy. The new one is sram.

Must have been a duff one then. My Microshift front mech worked fine...
