Define a beard

When does stubble officially become a beard? Is it on an individual case-by-case basis or is it a standard amount of time? I am guessing it's the former and depends on colour of the hair and complexion, also how fast it sprouts.

Also, when it gets to a suitable level of bush, can you just use clippers for your head hair, to keep it in check or are special beardy clippers required?

I have created a Beard Wall where I work and add pictures of hirsute gentlemen to it when they appear in Metro.

The efforts of Adam Kleeburger and Hashim Amla are particularly noteworthy. Warren Ellis has a strong showing as well.
