The Missus has an Enrique Eglasias Album, which I've learned the lyrics to, so I've also replied
"Si pudiera ser tu heroe
Si pudiera ser tu Dios!"

.
try this one next time.
"Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir ? "
It'll work a treat. :smooch:

I tend to find that acting like a slavering psycho tends to diffuse situations with Mr Angry motorist. They seem to think that cyclists are weedy and subservient, they tend to be surprised when I'm not!

I once witnessed an extra-ordinary reaction to roadrage by a cyclist. I am not sure it was defusing, but it was original. A driver (on Mile End Road I think) did the usual squeeze past the cyclist at high speed to undertake some cars doing 30mph routine. The cyclist that nearly got hit did a "double birdie" to the car driver which in itself I thought was impressive, a certain skill in using both hands to tell the driver to "eff off". Then a minute later the car stopped at the lights, and the cyclist caught up. As the cyclist went past the drivers side the driver clearly decided to have a shout. The cyclist paused, leaned right into the driver window and belched loudly and at length. This elicited a howl of rage from the driver at which point the cyclist did it again. There was silence and clearly the driver when to shout again when the cyclist wagged his finger and the driver shut up. Cyclist went off as if nothing had happened.

Maybe you've been unlucky or you ride in the rough end of your town, but I can't recall ever being so wound up about something that I felt the need for a word let alone an argument. PS - I ride in the less desirable parts of both Leeds and Bradford.

I think a person's outlook plays a key part in their view of the world.
So if you haven't personally seen a problem then it probably doesn't exist?

Also I got hit by a car once but if I had changed my outlook it probably would have felt like being taken out for a steak dinner.

Written better than I could at the moment! Well said

Outlook is fine, but we still need to fix the problems...

That has made me laugh uncontrollably, thank you very much for posting. I am not sure how effective it would be in defusing road rage but I developed the ability to swallow air and belch like that at will, as a boy. So as the bell on my bike has broken, I may very well experiment a little...

Most motorists dont know what it's like being a cyclist on the road. they're too busy speeding past the smallest gap they possibly can to get somewhere no faster than anyone else and find themselves stuck at the next set of lights.
Before cycling i found myself being frustrated being stuck behind a cyclist on the road. unfortunatley the roads are never big enough to accomadate both and allow cars to overtake easily.
Having cycling more and more often now since the beginning of the year i have changed my view completely. i will wait patiently behind the cyclist until it is safe to overtake and allow sufficient room between us both, unless it's some punk wheeling down the road!
i now witness a greater increase in a-hole motorists on the road since cycling.

How do you decide if it is a punk or not?

 i very rarely see cyclists on a commute or even a nice social ride 'popping' wheelies down the road. i would automatically come to the conclution hes a bit of a moron and show off
