Try local Facebook groups, people seem to have some success round here getting keys, wallets, bus cards etc reunited with owners or returned to them.
A mate of mine was dropping his wife at Berwick railway station and for some bizarre reason when she got out of the car she put her handbag on the roof of the car whilst she got her other bag out of the boot, For what evr reason the bag being plonked on the roof was taken as a signal for him to go. He drove off with her handbag on the roof and her other bag still in the boot, the handbag was never seen again and his wife was left abandoned for many many hours in berwick with no money, no train tickets, no phone, no anything - he was in big trouble for a very long time.
Never put anything on the roof of a car while you open the door. You are GUARANTEED to immediately forget it's there. I've done it and I know many others who also have.

GF once put a large amount of money in a loose wallet (maybe 200 euros) on the roof of a car on a coastal road then drove off. Remarkably an hour or two later we managed to retrieve most of it scattered along the road/amongst undergrowth etc. Another time in deep SW london (Twickenham?) she realised sitting in a bar that an ear ring had gone missing. For some reason, Trafalgar Square popped into her head. Took the long ride back, found it on the pavement.

Ok just a quicky to round this off....

It's now been a week and my bag and it's contents are obviously not coming back so I need to report it to the police. Can anyone suggest how I should go about doing this. Also does Garmin do anything about blocking devices via the serial number from Garmin Connect etc.
Thanks.

Garmin have a website where you can flag a device missing. You need to supply serial number, proof of purchase and the username. Hope this helps.

Call 101, ask them to take a lost property report - they should taken the details and pass them to the front counter of the nick closest to where you lost it. Or you could visit the nick yourself.

Son #2 found an ipad on the pavement near our house. I put some notices up around and about letting folk know I'd found an electrical device and if someone could describe it accurately to me then they could have it.

Couple of days later I got a call from a family who had been visiting a neighbour. Wife had put the ipad on the car roof and then set off, it then slid off and ended up on the pavement

They gave me a bottle of wine which was nice
