the first carbon frame i remember was the Alan carbonio,that must have been about 1985/1986

Didn't these have aluminium forks as well?

We recently saw a carbon/alu Alan that belongs to a friend's colleague, he's just got it out of his loft and started riding it again after a 10 year break. It's tubes looked pretty thin!

I've got a Giant CFR which is about 15 years old and that is carbon frame and Alu forks. It's still in very good condition but I don't ride it so much now. Several people have asked to buy it, but for me it's a standby should one of the others need to pay a visit to the LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was looking on ebay this morning and saw a bike, about 10-15 years old, the guy who was selling it said that it had a carbon frame... looking at it it looks like steel and even nowadays you cant get frame that skinny that are carbon...
what do you think?

i think they had aluminium forks,Just the 3 main frame tubes were carbon in aluminium lugs,also peugeot had a 3 tubed carbon frame in the mid 80's

Phil Anderson (and possibly the rest of the team) rode a carbon tubed 'Peugeot' in the 1983 Tour,

Not sure I'd want to fly down a hill on it now!!

Greg Lemond was using a carbon tubed TVT thing in 1986 to win the Tour, Colnago had their C35 carbon monocoque frame in 1987

Yes they did. And the Giant Cadex was one such. Not sure if it was fully carbon, could be carbon tubes with alloy lugs and forks. It's a fair price too, imo... at the moment!

ALAN bikes also used similar construction. I recall seeing one in about 1995 or so, it was'nt new when I saw it either.
