PS like MrP says...you'll see an escape route - brain on bike at 7.00am is far switched on than blob in car...... been in both.... bike riders are 5 times quicker easily....

I wonder if the Lorry driver would of reacted if another vehicle had driven in front of him, maybe one of the motorcycles. Would he have given another form of transport more respect? I get the feeling that the main issue that causes road rage is things GETTING IN YOUR WAY OR SLOWING YOU DOWN. People (even some cyclists) don't have the patience to look around and be aware and take their surroundings.

With every respect, I seriously doubt that another vehicle could have made the gap you did!

I know it's not applicable in this instance but you might want to note that trucks can have anything up to 18 gears to climb thru to get them up to speed and someone/thing suddenly appearing and moving slower in front means having to break and go back down thru the gears and up again.

Actually I often filter as the OP did at the start. I think, and I know others agree, that filtering down the right if there is enough space, is considerably safer than filtering down the left. I can understand how it looks more dangerous with the traffic coming towards you, but, the fact that they have a clear view of you makes it safe from an oncoming traffic perspective.

By filtering down the right you also avoid passenger doors opening, parked car doors opening, Johnny driver deciding at the last minute to pull the car to the left to look closer at the nice pair of leather trousers in the shop window, left hooks etc. Of course you need to keep an eye out for cars doing u-turns etc, but you get a better view of what is happening ahead, and usually more space to react.

As with everything it needs to be done with care.

Filtering down right beside stationary traffic fine; but here at the start it looked more like an overtake on right past moving traffic. Particularly with an oncoming bus on the opposite side a car (or in this case the blue tarpaulin lorry) would not have anticipated that someone was overtaking. A drift of the vehicle to the right... a clip and the cyclist is under the bus.

I thought the filtering was fine, apart from trying to get too far ahead. I doubt very much there would have been any drift to the right, given that the motorcycle had just passed teh vehicle.

Any driver in London is a dumbo if they don't anticipate filtering two wheelers. They're everywhere, some on bikes and some on flipping loud motorcycles.
