Did you find you got ill more often after starting cycling?

Usually it's the same for me too, albeit it lingered for a month this November.
The Like is for the first bit only, GWS!

Incidentally, I had already searched for research on aircraft-acquired infections. Apparently, passenger aircraft air conditioning systems have filters which will stop bacteria and viruses being recirculated with the air.

You're far more likely to pick up a bug by unwittingly touching an infected surface (someone having sneezed on it for instance) than picking up one that's airborne by inhaling it. It's why public transport is one of the prime places to pick up a case of the lurgies - handrails, ticket machines, escalators etc...

True!

I always use the hand gels when I go to my local health centre.

I once took my elderly mum to see her GP. While she was being seen I sat in the waiting room. A man sitting not far from me had a terrible cold. I saw him wipe under his nose with his bare hand, and then transfer a ribbon of snot onto the seat next to him!!!! xx(

At that point I decided it would be better to wait outside ...

In the days when I used to run marathons, you could take it for granted that your immune system would be shot for at least a week afterwards.

I'm not risking replying to the question. I'll go down with a particularly nasty strain of man flu if I did.

Oh all right.......

Recently I have found myself feeling dizzy, nauseous, shivering with a high heart rate and high temp from Saturday afternoon until mid Monday. This has happened when I've been cycling the previous 4 or 5 days. At the moment I can only put it down to doing too much and it catches up with me when I finally rest. I'm going to cut down on the miles this week, eat more and see if that makes a difference.

You dont catch colds through being outdoors in the fresh air. You catch them when you rub your eyes or pick your nose after being out in public places and picking up viruses on your hands. If you and your family all washed your hands on entering the house I bet you would get fewer colds. Also wash hands before sitting down to work and picking up the mouse or touching the keyboard.

I'm definitely healthier since starting cycling; even colds are mild and short-lived.
