Came home tonight expecting a letter from the Inland Revenue telling me either the good news or the bad news after this cockup that's been made, but it was not their.

Anyway I went onto the Inland Revenue website and onto the tax checker to check my tax, and was quite surprised to see that it flashed up that I have been paying too much and they owe me about £1500 smackers. Sounds too good to be true, but if its right, then that could be another new bike.

They sent a limo round last night with a TV crew and a couple of girls in swimsuits who presented me with a cheque for £35,000.

....then I woke up.

I did post the link in my original posting, but on checking it to see if the link worked, it would always be prefilled in with all my details and I did not want anyone to see that I was earning more than the head of the BBC so I had to keep removing it and trying again but it would not clear the details, but today it is all blanked out again. Ideally you need last years P60 for the details. Also it will not work if you receive allowances and various other things which are all in the second link.

I'm pretty sure the rest of us (who haven't got one yet) have until Christmas to receive a letter. What is the link to check it pls?

If you look on the Guardian's website, it reckons 50% of the population is affected and can take up to 4 years to sort out. But if you are affected, then their are also some letter templates on the second link below to send to the Inland Revenue to challenge them, just fill in the blanks:-

Do people not check how much tax they have paid?

I got my first payslip for my new job in August and was quite surprised that Tax and National Insurance had been paid. I think I know why they paid it, and if I am correct, they won't in future, but if my next payslip shows tax/NI I will call the office and ask why.

Similarly a job I did last year had tax paid on it, which I knew shouldn't have been, so I claimed it back this year.

But due to the nature of my work, my tax situation is perhaps a little more complex that those who work a fixed number of hours per week for a fixed amount.

For the past 4 years I've only worked part of the year so have been able to claim my tax back. I've never had a problem until this year, they've been sitting on my £350 since April, cheeky gets.

My kid brother once got a tax demand for £80,000. When I picked my jaw up from the floor he said he wished it had been ten times higher because it would have meant that he was seriously loaded

He's always been a 'glass is half full' sort of bloke.
