Diesel fumes responsible for air pollution deaths

Diesel is used as a scapegoat

It was originally promoted as a "healthier" alternative to petrol, and now we have diesel as the bad boy, and petrol as the "healthier" alternative

What is avoided is that neither is actually healthy

What should be addressed is the continuing failure to deal with the entire problem of unnecessary use of vehicles

Improving efficiency might help, as would better filters and other technological fixes, but the only real solution would be to move away from burning hydrocarbons and towards electric or hydrogen powered vehicles.

And @Cunobelin is right in post #34. There's too much use of vehicles which degrades our cities and towns in other ways in addition to air pollution while at the same time doing massive health damage through reduction in the total exercise being taken.

As an Asthma sufferer this is not news to me. Air 'Fresheners', Diesels and generally poor air quality all impact my breathing. The list of triggers is a long one so I've cut it short, but reserve special mention for the scent ironically named 'Poison' which for some reason really makes my Asthma react badly. Thankfully it seems to have gone from the shelves in recent times!

I also avoid big cities especially in the summer time, both days each year.
