Differentiated wheel rim heights?

I'm just curious: what's the thinking behind different rim heights on the front and rear?

And i'm even more intrigued to know about different rim heights on the same wheel. For example the Campagnolo Zonda front wheel rim height varies between 24 - 27mm; the rear 27-30mm

Thanks.

To give a stiffer rear wheel and to prevent the front from being affected by cross winds.

Thanks. I can see how that makes sense for a lower profile front compared to the rear. But are you saying the same rationale applies to heights that vary within a single wheel? If so, can you expand, please?

Is the rim wider where the groups of spokes go in?
Maybe that's it. There are some little individual platforms where the spokes go in. It's difficult to check now with the tyres on but when i measured before (and now) there seem to be small differences measuring at different points on the wheel where the spokes aren't.
