Once you accept that you're going to get wet through it's fine. So long as you don't let yourself get cold, either with layers or just not stopping moving.

It was not that bad today, but I must order the replacement bits to my battered crud roadracers, the back one has snapped just after the point of usefullness. Thank god for the spare pair of pants in the filing cabinet.

I cycled in this morning and regretted it completely!

I just can't imagine that - I've got a 1 mile trip to the station, so the alternative to cycling is walking - and I'll get even wetter and even more wind blown than cycling.

To be honest, the cycling is always a joy.

Wore my skullcap under the helmet for the 1st time today, lovely warm ears.
Was cursing my lack of fitness as I struggled a bit going to work, saw a colleague when I got there who said 'that was hard work wasn't it?' didn't feel too bad then.
Lovely bit of tailwind coming home at 10pm,meant I could glide along without really trying and still do 18-20mph on the flat which is fast for me

You're a braver man than me. You wouldn't catch me in shorts in this weather. I have to see the sun before I get my legs out.

I'm right up north as in Scotland . It is blowing a gale right now. I cycled to work at 10pm. I geared up left early only to find I had a side wind and no rain. I was expecting a headwind.

My car as nice and warm as it is, is just out for the shopping trip lately.

Don't feel bad! I took one look out the window this morning an took the tube.

I took two tubes, one in front tyre and one in back tyre.

Despite the weather being worse this morning than yesterday, when I wimped out, I arrive at work warm, dry and feeling pleased with myself for not succumbing to the car, I could not face two commuting days in a row stuck in the metal box. Obviously slower than normal because of taking it easy on corners and braking earlier for junctions/lights.
The only problems I had was with muppet car drivers desperate to overtake, not understanding braking distances double in the rain and the two second rule becomes the four second rule..

I think it's being wet/damp and cold that's the main problem.

That's where I went wrong yesterday. I was fine as I was cycling, but as soon as I hit the shower at work it hurt. And coming down to my desk even though I was showered, dry and in my work clothes, I just sat here shivering. That's when my arms started to turn dark blue. I couldn't even string a sentence together - knew what I needed to say but just couldn't get the words out. Not very pleasant at all! Respect for my ex-Army colleague who helped me to warm up and stop shivering pretty quickly.

I drove home yesterday and I have come in the car today as I just could not stomach cycling still, was actually a bit scared of coming in on the bike this morning (don't know why, just was not even an option). I'm hoping to cycle in tomorrow and Friday, as it is not looking as bad. Will be donning jogger bottoms and a coat tomorrow I think.

Far too many soft Southerners on this forum...and a few soft Northerners too...........

Wind is only air, and rain is only water. All good training, and also stops any 'guilty' thoughts....

Pathetic isn't it.

And it hasn't dipped below 0 dec C yet.

Pooftahs
