Do I Pay More For A Couple Carbon Bottle Cages?

Ok so i keep buying plastic cages at a couple quid each. I use 750ml bottles and i have had cages break when hitting a rough spot in the road and also snap when just catching the cage in general use. Are carbon fibre cages really much stronger or am i better of just to keep buying the inexpensive ones?

Wouldn't want to throw £50-£60 away to only have the carbon cages break like the cheap plastic ones.

I use specialized plastic ones at about a tenner each. I also use 750ml bottles and have never had any trouble.

Cheaper than carbon but not too expensive. Job done.

Take a couple of weeks to come but they are good.

Never had a bottle bounce out, and have been on some rough roads.

IME 750ml will bounce out of carbon cages fairly often, at least mine used to. I then switched to 500ml bottles but I've even had those bounce out as well so I've had to modify my carbon cages to prevent it happening

Prior to getting these a few years ago I always used alu cages and TBH I never had an issue with any size bottle, go figure!

It's not that they are stronger (maybe they are) it's just that they are lighter. Not really worth it IMHO when a pair of Elite Race plastic cages keeps a very strong grip on any bottle I've put in them yet. Having said that I have Elite Paron carbon cages on my carbon bike and I've not had a bottle bounce out yet.

Never had a bottle lost or a cage break with Elite but ive just swapped them for zipp carbon cages for no reason at all ....... Other than I'm a tart

I use Specialized Rib Cages (plastic) with 750ml bottles, never lost one yet and each cage is only 36g, winner!! Cheap too at about £7 per cage.

Cuissi Elite used for years with no issues.

Got a few hundred miles in with cheap Chinese eBay Carbon (very similar if not the same as the ones linked by @derrick) and all good so far.

Planet X carbon bottle cages are about £20 each and mine have been fine so far.

I've never lost a 750ml bottle in 12k miles. They even work upside down

I like these simple plastic ones. The one on my MTB keeps a 750ml bottle in place over some pretty rough stuff

Dam just placed a order for some Aeron Pro shorts a few minutes ago, could of brought a couple cages too. Looking at the consensus on here think i will stick to the plastic ones.

Got elites, have more problems getting the bottle out than having it fall out.
