Got elites, have more problems getting the bottle out than having it fall out.
I know what you mean, but if you give them a firm pull to either side (rather than trying to lift them out) they come out nicely.

I used to use aluminium cages, but I've had at least two break at the welds, and they do become slack after some use and you need to bend them back. I've also had a bottle jump out of one halfway down Peak Hill in Sidmouth, and by the time I realised, I was nearly at the bottom, and couldn't be bothered to go back up.

I'm also a fan of Elite, in fact; just bought a second holder and bottle to replace a cheaper one. Never had an issue with them.
1000ml Bottles.....Bottles have a nice cover over the mouse piece to, no more splatters on there :]
My only annoyance lays in the fact that I reserved them on the exact same page and the cage came in a different style :banghead:

They hold the bottles nice and securely, no slipping or slidin' :bravo:

On my commuter bike I use bendy aluminium bottle cages, so I can easily make the cage fit any bottle. Weight's not an issue, because if I let myself worry about a few grams/ounces of extra weight, then it's clear that my legs need an upgrade, not the bike.

You must have crap holders then as I use 750ml bottles and have never had one bounce out of a carbon cage.
They probably are TBH as they were Focus branded ones that I've since rubbed down and re-lacquered after they stared looking manky.

I have seen bottles bounce out of dearer cages as well though so I guess it can happen to any.

I won't buy anymore though as the weight saving v's cost is just crazy, especially if you're carrying a 'few' extra lbs anyway ;)

I think in answer to the original question I don't think paying for carbon fibre ones is worth it

I bought two plastic Bianchi ones for £13 each whereas a cf one was around £50, I've got much better things to spend £100 on than two cages to save a few grams of weight!!

If mine break I can replace them around 3 times over each for the price of a cf

The only reason I can see for one is bike vanity!

My plastic cheapos from Tesco have not broken or lost a bottle in over 10,000 miles. £6 the pair. Almost as light as cf. ^_^

I have a similar attitude to bottle cages. A couple from Decathlon were about £7 the pair and are perfect. I like 900ml bottles, being a sweaty chap and the carbon ones are completely unsuitable as they have minimal flex in them.

Not that I'd waste that much cash on chasing a few grams.....same effect as leaving my sunglasses at home
