Do people really fall for this?

Older people tend to get caught out with this sort of thing. I think they just panic. They don't look at emails like this logically. The same thing happens when nasty little oiks knock on they're door, telling them that they're roof needs repairing and charging them a fortune for doing diddly squat.

You and I and an awful lot of other people realise what a load of rubbish it is and would just delete it, but some people are gullable and would hand over they're details. People who con others like this should have they're hands chopped off as far as I am concerned.

I'm an older person, why should I be more prone to fall for this? I read these things laugh then delete, same as people knocking at my door saying things want fixing, the last bloke to try that got told to go away, and I wasn't that polite about it, he said "my guttering was blocked and wanted fixing"

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
You may be quite savvy where computers are concerned but a lot of older people aren't and can be taken for a ride. However, young people can and are just a susceptible to being conned. The bottom line is that anyone can be conned. If you have taken offence at anything that I have said, then I apologise to you.

And to noodley. My humble apologies gentlemen.

No need for apologies, no offence taken, you have a good point, it was just the way it was put, I'm well aware that some people, of all ages, are gullible.

No, I think you'll find it's mostly women. As well as the stuff I mentioned earlier, I think they also think too much about fluffy animals and finding naff links to post on Facebook along the lines of "live life to the fullest of your potential"; as they sit down with some chick lit waiting for Emmerdale to start.

Mills and Boon do Chick Lits now..............Wot?

My 13 year old son was in a state of total panic when he got the Met Police virus... The one that tells you that you have been accessing illegal sites and your computer will be locked until you pay the Russian/Nigerian b'stards 100 quid. Thank god he doesn't' have a credit card because he was trying to get his savings out of the bank. Luckily he has a good enough relationship with me to confide in me.

Following a YouTube video I was able to get rid of it.

The third link refer to the actual virus, and it doesn't seem to matter if you're not running windows. Its been known to pop up on almost any system.
