I can't remember when I last commuted home by tram when it was wet and windy, but I reckon there was probably some trepidation in doing that too, just less so.

Here for rides.
Yep. Especially when things change; clocks go back, I know there are roadworks, etc..

The trick is not to let the nerves get the better of me.

I do at the moment. Not only do I have selfish /thuggish car drivers to contend with, there's the added joy of both unlit and over-lit cyclists on the Bristol to Bath Railway path - and with the od "comedy" one with a flashing red light on the front.

But what really sets me off is 200 yards of one of Bristol's main commuting routes which the council have re-worked without giving a thought to cyclists.

I find myself on some sort of one man mission to publicise this mess in what is laughably called a "Cycling City"...

The most recent annoyance is finding a cycle route utility on the council website that is directing me away from lovely parkland and one main road crossing, to a half mile detour through a council estate and across several main roads.

I rarely commute by bike any longer, because of a change in lifestyle...

But when I did I'd have a couple of days a month when I just bumbled around the house before departure making the silliest excuses for delaying the off.

I've been in the presence of loud bangs aplenty and have had beastly weapons held to my head with menaces... but a 20-mile semi-rural commute in the rain would occasionally set the jitters going.

My wife always knew when I was'upset' and would smile and give me little huglets. To this day I have no idea what the nerves were about. I always loved the ride (whatever the weather) within minutes of setting off.

If you get the jitters before a commute, you are not alone and it does pass. I'd be nervous at the thought of close passes, but once I was among the wheelnuts of artics I felt alive and happy and fearless. We (mankind) seem to be strangely wired.

I understand that, I dont get nervous but most mornings I have to fight myself to not just get on the tube.

5 minutes after setting off I'm thinking why I felt like that. I love it, but still try and put it off, god knows why - its also the same on longer rides - maybe I'm just a lazy f*

yes sometimes i do feel a little nervous......mostly on the commute home as there is more traffic and recently there has been some nasty roadworks on my route which are pain in the backside least and at worst just plain dangerous. Doesn't last long...in fact i'd say the feeling is gone as soon as i have started off....sometimes think its more of an adrenalin thing going off rather than nerves.

EDIT: Feeling nervous about getting on a bike is totally irrational at the end of the day ^_^

It can be a right pain especially once the last part of the winter ritual is done of putting on the gloves and then you have an un-ignororable urge to visit the toilet, Jacket, Jersey, helmet, gloves, rucksack all need to be removed to free up the bloody bibs. Not sure the helmet is essential in this processs more a matter on not feelling completely relaxed on the throne with it on.. Worse still when it is merely a trickle or a touch of wind. Never really thought about it but it must be the pre-match butterflies! (possibly too much information here, so apologies in advance..)

I do occasionally. It's a kind of free-floating anxiety with no obvious cause. Once I'm on the road it disppears. Just one of those things.

Same for me, nothing I'm actually frightened of but there's definitely an underlying anxiety there. It's quickly forgotten about within a turn of the pedals but it is annoying!

Not for the commute, but as soon as I think about going out on the bike for a bit of fun I do get a funny feeling. I don't know if it's because I don't plan my routes or if there is some other reason. It goes as soon as I clip in.

When I first get on the bike ready for the dark evening commute I do have a bit of anxiety, especially as the first 6-7 miles are on a dark, hardly-ever-used, cycle path by the river. But once the wheels are turning and my legs are warm, and I realise the money I am saving on fuel costs, and the weight I am losing, I just get on with it.
