If you have a summer wheeler, complete with tires and cassette fitted, do you find the chain is mismatched in the sense that the chain has been used for most of the year and when you install the summer wheeler, then the chain does not "gel" correctly with the cassette?

I was thinking of getting a summer wheeler and if I did, I wondered if I need to install a new chain?

Just transfer your cassette and there's no problem.

I have a Summer wheelset, although they have been on from March this year and still not swapped them over yet.

I tend to swap the cassettes between wheels to keep them on the same bike. This avoids the issue you describe.

If I was changing wheels regularly, then I would buy an extra cassette.

New set of wheels every summer on the good bike then transferred to the winter bike then repeat

I have four back wheels all with their own cassettes and have never had a problem . If there was a problem then you can just tweak the cable adjuster to put it right .

Just swap the cassette over as mentioned.
Don't forget to weigh the difference between your two wheel sets so when you ride slower in the winter due to excessive pie you have a good excuse all lined up! :okay:

I didn't think the cable adjustment would help because the problem is with the cassette teeth latching on to the chain, rather than the ability to change gear?

Keep the chain in good order ie make sure it doesn't go past 50%.
I have lots of wheels and all with cassettes on.
Never a prob until the chain is worn.
