I've decided I need a new challenge for the summer and have decided to learn to longboard. Fortunately one of the young people in our house is going to teach me. No reason beyond I just fancy the idea for when I need to nip into town to buy the proverbial pint of milk without the faff, and worry, of locking up a bike.

OK so at 53 and 15 stone I'm gonna look pretty stupid but ...

... so anyone into it?

Have you alerted A&E to be on standby?

Seriously, I've seen a few people commuting to work on longboards. And why not? One, on the South Bank, had a longboard trailer with his bag on it.

I was in Switzerland recently at a company. People of all ages were commuting on all sorts of non-standard transport; long boards, scooters; both 2 and 3 wheel, in-line skates, as well as the more normal bikes, cars and motorbikes.
It seemed a bit strange seeing somebody around 60 coming in on in-line skates or a scooter; but, it’s only strange due to what we’ve got used to seeing (or not seeing) in the UK.

It potentially is. In reality, ime, not so much as you might think.

Saw a bloke a motorized version on Exhibition Road a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't entirely clear to me how stopping and starting worked.

Ever thought about a plank and a pair of old roller skates.Just incase the idea only lasts 30 seconds. At least the plank will come in handy for a painting job one day.

There is a particularly finely named model, the Mindless Corsair, no idea how good it is though.
Honestly. Truthfully. And without a word of a lie.

That's the one I've bought. It's a decent enough entry level board. Or so the kidz tell me.

Would you recommend some broom handles and a pair of pram wheels to a would be cyclist on the same basis?;)

Except the shop rang to say the one they had is damaged and they won't sell it mail order. So they upgraded me to a Mindless Marauder, which feels a bit like typecasting to me, and gave me an extra 10% off!
