Over this last weekend there have been two helmet threads that have accrued around 400 posts between them (when I last looked) prounouncing reasons for and against helmet wearing when cycling (and some that have little or nothing to do with helmet wearing when cycling or cycling for that matter)

In beginners and Riding

and

Commuters

skimming through the posts it is pretty difficult to determine the consensus - but the proof of the pudding is do you wear one?

So!

And it has probably been done before - but - the question is do you wear a helmet?

I would not bother to add a post, its been done to death in the two threads already

A consensus of what are you looking for? That folks wear helmets, that they do any good, that they save lives? Just because a majority of folks wear a helmet, what does that say?

For the record I wear a helmet over 90% of the time, but I don't believe they can save lives.

For cyclocross, yes (it's the rules)
For timetrialling- sometimes (pointy variety, for aerodynamic rather than safety reasons)

For ordinary cycling (commuting, shopping etc.)- no

Here for rides.
commuting and club rides tend to be hell for leather so - yes
solo cycling for fun, shopping, going down the pub - no
mountain biking - always.

There is not a clearcut answer to the question.

I have worn a helmet, still own one and might one day wear it again but right now I prefer to cycle lidless.
