Can you please enlighten me why a moose is clambering over the dam in the first picture. I thought only salmon did that?

If you will be leading any future rides, may I suggest a circumnavigation of the globe. That way you can't possibly set off in the wrong direction.

Btw, we did not get lost on the canal the following week.
Nevertheless, on exiting the canal path:
Me to group: well, where do we go from here to the cycling festival?
Group:
Me to random cyclist flying up the road: excuuuuuuse me, you going to the cycling festival?
Him (squealing brakes, almost flies over the handlebars): aye!
Me: we'll just follow you then, is that ok???

Good stuff. I have passed by a few times but never been in. Its only about 15 minutes cycle away from where I live
