I've been avoiding this thread until I caught up ... and no I didn't guess in advance ... not even with the name clue....

I enjoyed it ... though it had me feeling confused for much of the program.

Big fans in my household and I had to grudgingly accept that David Tenant had knocked Tom Baker off top spot but I was amazed to find we all, very quickly, relegated David Tennant in favour of Matt Smith...we love him!!! Had guessed some, particularly when the 'flesh' was introduced, but the last episode was great anyway and the kids were clueless

The only thing I'd like to see a bit less of is the end of the world/universe/time itself type scenarios and a bit more intrigue. Agree with the poster above, the Crying Angels was one of the best I've ever seen, boy were the boys scared that night.

I'm not going to openly speculate on what it might all end up at, I'm too steeped in SciFi and 'timey wimey' type stuff and it wouldn't be fair. But for those that knock Dr Who, compare it to the bigger budget churn on the back of the Star Trek/Star Wars franchises and it's pure class. It throws ideas and material at you, lots happening and a good pace, maybe even too fast sometimes. Then try watching something like Stargate, Stargate Universe, DS9, Andromeda, Battlestar, etc, etc, etc and you'd be back begging for more Dr Who.

I really like a lot of those programs but I'm with you that dr who is better because you do get so much more variety and punchier story arcs

Yep, I've enjoyed, to some extent, all of them it's just the US seem to really spin out the material and you see similar ideas re-used. They often start well, promise great things, then become really boring. One of the best, IMO, was Babylon 5, yes it had some dreadful filler episodes but it also had a good over arching story arc. But they dragged that too far as well, quality over quantity doesn't seem to be their long suit.

In case it's of interest we happened on the British Library when we were in London for a family day last week. They've got a SciFi exhibition on the go that's well worth a visit. I'm quite into older stuff, picked up from browsing secondhand bookshops and charity shops. I find it really fascinating reading what was envisaged at that time and comparing it to current thinking and even what has become reality. Watching Dr Who tells me that a lot of the writers have read a lot of the same sort of books that I have. The SciFi Masterworks series is also worth picking up, I don't like them all but they all have some redeeming features.
