Not half as old-fashioned as pedal cycle. JR Hartley would probably say pedal cycle.

Not sure when the term was first used but it was originally a derogatory term for someone riding an old fashioned bike, the reference being to the Hobby Horse cica 1820.

I've never had a problem with it, in fact I've never even THOUGHT about it. But the voracity of opinion on here could sway me now... it's made me laugh, anyway. Are all push-bike riders a little bit OCD? ;-)

Never bothered me tbh. I even use the term 'pushie' to differentiate between a (motor)bike and bike (bicycle) when talking to other (motor)bikers. It's context innit?

You don't 'push' a bicycle so why call it a 'push' bike?

But you can, hence the term. I can get off my bike and legally push it anywhere a pedestrian can go.

I must admit to smugly smiling when colleagues at work say they've been out for a long ride on their bike(s) at the weekend, knowing full well these "bikes" are all fitted with c1000cc engines...

I have always thought the term push bike to be somewhat derogatory...

The term pushbike doesn't bother me, but some of the terms non cyclists use to describe the riders, does make me angry at times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, doesn't bother me at all (you do, after all, push the pedals round with your feet!).

It is a useful term for me because when I say "my bike", I mean my motorbike.

Jigger was the popular Victorian term for a racing bike
