Does anyone in CC land work for an MOT garage?

What you need to know? My brother was a tester and a lot of it seeped into my consciousness.

Well, the Saab went in for it's MOT today and failed because an Exhaust Particulate Filter is missing but is fitted as standard and should have been there. It was gone and there was just a pipe welded on where it should have been.
We drove across to the independent Saab dealer that sold it to us, with full MOT that they did, the owner not there but his son was (a right sheister, IMO) and he said that last year, when it was tested, the regs said that there didn't need to be one fitted, so that fact it's been removed (not by the Saluki household) was OK, but they changed the regs on 1/1/16 and now we've fallen foul of it.
Having spoken to our MOT guy, who says that this is BS of the highest order, which is what we thought, I thought I would just ask the question from someone we are not friends (in real life) with but who might know when the regs were changed, as we are pretty sure it wasn't last week.

Our nice MOT chap had no internet up at his place, otherwise, he'd have looked it up.

If you've used the garage next to Lidl, good luck. Under its previous management, even the owner's brother wouldn't take his car there!
No, not next to Lidl, a friends place in Norwich. Should have bought a car from him and not the Saab!
Thanks for the heads up about next to Lidl though :okay:

Trading standards time I think @Saluki
You'll never guess what website I was just googling.....

I am seeing them tomorrow. I'll print off the DPF info and take it with me. I am going to suggest that they make me a fair offer for the car or I'm off to TS. That car should not have passed its MOT last year, or the year before for that matted.

When did you buy the car?

I know, probably haven't a leg to stand on but I got it with a year's MOT and nobody has been under the thing since.

Id tell him to sort the CAT so you can MOT it or its VOSA time..report him if he wont..
his mot licence will be in jeperdy

what has happened is the mot has been given with a cat missing So its illegal..or he's got the reading on the test off another car etc
id try that approach..
Thank you.

I am going to dig the old MOT cert out of my 'car file' and take it with me. Hopefully I will see Tom tomorrow rather than his son (who really really gets on my pips, he's such a know it all and knows nothing, lies through his teeth too). Tom is a decent sort but not in the garage much as he's suffering with Cancer and in clinic 2 or 3 times a week. Mind you, he's driving himself to and fro so not at death's door.

Be firm..but cool and polite..you mean business..
go with the i want this sorting as we both no whats happened here..

if he gives you the finger...and wont budge you will struggle to get anywhere ..and sod the legal side..be a long waste of time.
just anounce to him as your leaving that you will present the info to vosa TS and the VAT man..
as your obviously not a straight dealer... if he dont yield then just report and get a new exhaust..

i hate shody garages..i used to work for a complete c_%€ who ripped off everyone..he' doing porridge now.

good luck @Saluki
