You'll be fine on pretty much any road bike and tyre combo, imho. The only potential issue you might face is busted spokes on the rear wheel. I would suggest a spoke count of 32 as a minimum, not to say it will stop spokes from busting but will provide more resilience if one does go ping. Buy a spoke key and learn to replace them and true wheels. Take the spoke key with you on all rides and if one goes, compensate by tweaking adjacent spokes and slackening the ones directly opposite on the other side of the rim.

+1 for all that said more spokes. Don't scrimp on a good set of wheels!

Yeah - I had cheap wheels on my last bike and had a few spokes go.

So far, nothing on my new Roadrat, and I've done a fair few miles on it already but if spokes start going then I will invest in a very good pair of handbuilt wheels.
