Does size really matter?

I have long legs for my height and find that the top tube is often too long on a frame that suits my legs. It's obviously possible to change stem length, but the top tube needs to be about the right length so I don't end up with a ridiculously short stem. It's much easier to buy a longer seat post.

I have road frames from 57cm to 63cm (centre to top) and a MTB frame that is 50cm. They all fit, but the amount of exposed seat post varies considerably!

Manufacturers don't seem to have a uniform measuring system. Its different for all, of them, but I think you can get away with different sizes as long as the difference is small say the differance between a 16inch and 17inch as is the case for womens bikes

And don't even try the so called unisex frames! Look at the debacle I had with the Fuji....
