Wow! I grew up in Leeds (admittedly about five miles ENE of Holbeck and have never heard of that battle until now.....
Just a week before the Cable Street riot, it seems. I remember my father talking about seeing a Mosley rally, and the way his goons beat the hell out of hecklers, so I assume it must have been this one as I can't find any other outdoor events in Leeds.
(My father was a socialist not a fascist, he was just there out of curiosity.)

It was a long while before I realised that Max Mosley of Formula One fame was his son, and only a couple of weeks ago that his grandson, Louis Mosley is the UK CEO of the controversial tech firm, Palantir.

Two things about my house and its near environs I've recently discovered.

A footpath runs through my drive way, living room and back garden. The district carncil have suspended the RoW and are going through the process to formally re-route it.

And about 30 metres away there used to stand a very tall windmill pump, you know the sort that you see in old wild west movies. Installed around 1900ish and re,oved in the 70's. The footings are apparently still there and I keep meaning tk try and seek then out in the undergrowth.

Well there should be a pipe there as well and if you find the rods sticking up it should be viable as a water source for the garden.

Our house used to have two fireplaces, a crack developed in the flue on one which allowed hot gases to seep into the wall of the house.

now we have one fireplace, which has been converted to a gas insert,

we also have a new wall in that end of the house

and new ceilings

and new floors

and a new roof

and lots of nice new paint

and once in a while…. An odd Smokey smell.

did I mention we lived with my mother in law for three months?
