I know you said small but, check out your local greyhound rescue centre.

You might think that they're a bit lively, but in reality they're proper lazy dogs.

I know someone who started out as a volunteer walker at our local rescue, she now has two of her own at home.

@Webbo2 don't do what Ugo on BR did and get a Vizsla having no experience of dogs or having ever owned a pet before 😂

That's a case of definitely not doing your research.

I like them but there's no way we could give them the amount of exercise that they need.

probably still too big / daft though :okay:

Loved mine too. She was very active.

Sadly lost her to cancer when she was barely 10 years old and haven’t had another dog.

GSD (Alsatian in old money) are great
but they have a lot of energy and don;t tend to calm down until they are about 2 ish

and they want to know where you are ALL the time
be prepared to share you time on the toilet with a new friend

basically they worry

but they do amazing head tilts when trying to work out what is happening

Oh - and your carpet will turn GSD coloured when they moult
they seem to moult 175 times their total volume every day for a few weeks

I decided to leave off hoovering for a couple of days - I actually could not see the carpet at all after that - and the carpet was bright red!!

but they are lovely dogs and very loyal

The factory next to ours got a GS as a guard dog. The guy knew nothing about dogs and followed it is up with two xl bullies. One day they attacked her, my brother dived (literally) into the melee to rescue her (bit reckless but he lived to tell the tale 😂). She is now firmly ensonced in the family. Yes, she is like velcro to all of us and follows you everywhere, she has also taken on the role of our protector now she feels safe. Problem is that anyone she doesn't know now gets the full barking treatment!

One of my Border Collies had to help with everything. One day at my parents house Mum was hand pruning a small bush and dog sat next to her watching and studying as never seen this activity before. Mum's hand would reach into bush then come out holding a stem that would be dropped in a bucket. Dog watched completely focused turning head to follow hand into bush, out of bush and bucket. After 5 mins of intense watching dog understood the activity and suddenly lunged into bush, grabbed stem dragged it out (broken or bitten through) and dropped it in the bucket, then back into bush for another stem, etc.

We were all so amazed (and laughing) nobody got round to stopping dog and she just kept going, job needed doing and she was going to help.
