Not of the musical kind!

But I have heard that you can donate an organ to science and actually get paid for it. These are obviously organs that you dont need (kidney, lung, a brain in some cases). But is it true?

I know you dont get paid for donating blood but is there anything that you can donate which will get you money?

Oh that sounds sinister - I don't think it's allowed in the UK. I may be wrong.

You could always take part in a science trial but that's not donating organs as such and with the testing of new medications there does come a certain amount of risk.

No - it is unlawful for donors to be paid for donating an organ.

Paying for donating blood is controversial as the people most likely to donate for money are more likely to be in high risk groups for transmissable diseases, which is why Europe is trying to become self-sufficient in altruistic blood donation - although I believe we still have to import paid blood from the US.

I'm surprised you don't feel you need a brain! Brain transplants don't exist anyway.

Kidney and lung transplants do, and most people have 2, but if you donate 1 you run the risk of the other failing.

It sounds as if you are looking for something to donate Matthew. If you need the money, I would sell your helmet cam before starting on your kidneys

Donating work is usually much more lucrative than disposing of fluids or body parts.

To be honest, if you want to donate blood, why not donate it in the normal way.

We are desparately short of blood donors in the UK and we could all need some in a hurry one day.

That can cost you in the long run.

A lesbian woman I knew, about 4 years ago, was 'fishing' to see if I would be interested in helping her conceive. When I figured out what she was after I refused outright as I would want to be an active and involved parent not just a donor.
She placed an internet order in the end.

I really do think that situation in the link is highly unusual and actually pretty mean spirited. However, even if you are entering into something like this with a friend (or anything tbh) it is always good to have a contract written down. It just saves on the grey areas and unfortunately any horrid situations like this need to be discussed and thought about beforehand.
