do tyres generally come in pairs or are prices quoted on websites for single tyres?

I'm thinking of buying a pair of slicks for my mountain bike.

Any tires I've bought before were priced singularly.

You occasionally find deals advertised for a pair at a lower price than two single, but mostly it is by the each.
