Almost at the end of my ride tonight - sitting second at the lights at the end of Ferry Road, turning right onto Junction Bridge. I'm sitting right against the white line in the middle of the road. Lights change, and I follow the car in front of me round the corner. Then from nowhere two very decrepit coffin-dodgers in a Rover come past me on my right as I'm half-way round the corner !

No idea WHERE they came from, as they weren't the car behind me as we sat waiting for the lights to change (I know that because the brown Fiat behind me was a inch off my back wheel and I'd given them a 'look' for edging up so close). I guess they'd driven down past all the other cars behind me on the wrong side of the road and just kept going. I just shook my head and threw an arm in the air in dismay, and I could see cars coming the other way staring at them and shaking their heads too.

Its at times like these that you do start to think that they should compulsorily re-test some of the elder generation once they reach a certain vintage. They're a danger to themselves and others - I wouldn't have trusted that pair to be in control of a supermarket trolley, let alone a motorised vehicle in rush-hour traffic.

I don't think that.

I think that everybody should take a retest every set number of years (say, five). Yes, it would be expensive, but it would very quickly weed out those who think that they are good drivers but have picked up a few bad habits.

That's outrageous! If Col reads that you'll have 20+ pages of why you shouldn't be inciting them to riot. It didn't affect you or anybody else so you shouldn't have made and comment and/or gesture. :biggrin:;)

I had to dodge an old lady who lurched from the pavement on to the road in her electric buggy without looking. Unfortunately the cam had run out of battery, or it would have been a classic.

I'd got that 6th sense about her impending leap, so brakes were covered and speed was reduced. I'd better watch out for her posse!

I was looking for that this morning (work anyone?) but couldn't remember who the ad was for. When I did a search on mobility scooters, there were loads of entries about collisions, with the occasional death thrown in.

I WOULD BE INTERESTING........
to compare the number of people injured on and by mobility scooters compared with cyclists, as a raw number and per mile travelled of course.
:biggrin::evil::biggrin::evil::biggrin::evil::biggrin::evil:
Compulsory helmets for for mobility scooters anyone?

+1 for compulsory retesting every x years for everyone.

+ another 1.

On the subject of scooters, I was out in the recycling people's electric truck yesterday (think of a sort of small milkfloat in bright yellow) and we had a nice round to do, an area with a lot of retired folk, and small quiet streets and courts and so on. At one point the only traffic around was us and a couple of old ladies on scooters. It was like some sort of vision of future transport after the oil runs out...:biggrin:
