if they'd been in that position since the tunnel roundabout that would have been about a mile

Do you know the area well? I do and that scenario is well-nigh impossible. There’s ample opportunity for easy passing all along Shieldhall Rd before you get anywhere near Helen Street.

We just don't know what led to this incident, and if we applaud a cyclist thumping the crap out of a car driver we can hardly complain when the boot is on the other foot. Whatever preceeded this the actions of the rider went far beyond self defence.

Been down there a few times but not at rush hour. Was just basing it on two lanes full of commuter traffic, plus parked cars, although I've been down Switchback Road at busy times and have never ended up with a queue of cars behind me, probably because of the lights, so yeah you're probably right.

That was truly shocking and does nobody any favours. We dont know what happened before but the cyclist was totally in the wrong for what was a sustained and brutal attack. Violence like that has no place.

If it was the driver thumping the rider we’d have been outraged.

"Truly shocking". Really? It was no more than a bit of fisticuffs, and much worse can be seen in any UK town centre most nights of the week.
You are right in that we don't know what happened before, but I think it is safe to assume that at some point the Porsche driver has got out of his car, and presumably not to compliment the cyclist on his road manners. That makes it quite likely that the driver instigated the physical side of the confrontation and then took second prize. No sympathy from me, based on the video.

"No more than a bit of fisticuffs?" The cyclist continued to attack the driver while he was on the ground, half in a hedge and an onlooker is trying to restrain the cyclist. This rider appears to be a violent individual unable to control himself. Regardless of whether or not worse can be seen elsewhere it is still violent unacceptable behaviour which you are condoning.

Only one person due any credit in this video.

Yes. Just because similar can be seen elsewhere doesn’t make it ok. That was someone losing control.

I don't think I ever said it was OK, or acceptable, or even condoning it. All I am saying is it wasn't exactly "truly shocking".
Two aggressive road users meet up with an inevitable result. It just so happens that the probable instigator came off worse. No innocent people were injured in the making of this video; good result.

Your language and outlook here suggest that this further statement isn't the case.

I don't think I ever said it was OK, or acceptable, or even condoning it.

If that's your opinion that's absolutely fine but to alot of people that is truly shocking behaviour, as I stated earlier violence, especially the continued violence from the cyclist in this video can often lead to alot worse outcome, something I've seen in my profession over the years, it can ruin lives.

If it was the driver thumping the rider we’d have been outraged.

Absolutely agree. I appreciate we are biased towards certain situations or, just form more of an opinion based on our experiences that lean towards a cyclists favour but personally think that cyclists behaviour is disgusting.

something I've seen in my profession over the years,

It's also something I saw in my profession, pretty much on a daily basis for 20 years, which might help to explain my perhaps blasé attitude towards it.
It might be truly shocking on a Sunday morning in sleepy hollow, but (not wishing to sound disrespectful to Govan) this is GOVAN! Pick a fight with a cyclist - or anyone else for that matter - at your peril.
