Don't you just hate it when you press the wrong buttons on your computer

...and you end up with a load of gobbledegook. I think my GPS just didn't get a signal this morning, despite it saying it had. It had me marauding through a whole bunch of back gardens, on the go for twice as long as I was but only recorded 8 minutes of HR data

And doesn't always happen when you've feel you've done particularly well

I have a little zen creative mp3 player. Being a man, obviously I've never bothered reading the manual. Every now & then it goes a bit loopy (or maybe it's me doing something) and goes into recording mode - and it always takes me minutes of frustrated pushing of various buttons and sliders before I can get it back into play mode. Every time I USB it to the laptop I take a minute or two to clear out the eleven recordings of me going "Oh for *&%*'s sake, the *&()%$ing things gone into *&(&%^ing record mode again! Mutter mutter grumble grumble snarl snarl...."

I kept hitting a key on my office keyboard that caused the computer to switch itself off so I prised the stupid key out and threw it in the drawer.

LOL - you could have done a SELECT ALL and then a RESTORE to get them back in about 3 clicks

What I hate ... and I mean really hate, as in it makes me want to smash the computer, is when you know exactly what you want an application to do but you just can't figure out how to make it do it and the help is useless!!!!!

Example - I have just installed jCreator (a java IDE) and unfortunately I downloaded the JDK docs after I'd installed jCreator ... now try as I flipping well might, I just can't get the wretched thing to recognise the docs directory! What makes it even more frustrating is that the help file teasingly states, "JDK documentation may be configured after installation" ... although it doesn't tell you how to do it!

I am about two minutes away from either smashing the computer, or uninstalling jCreator and installing the whole damn thing all over again just to get it to pick up the JDK docs ....

BASTARD!!!!!!

Related tho' off-topic, I spent about four or five hours wrestling with various googled 'solutions' before giving up and restoring the factory Windows to my laptop (in the process losing three years' accumulated files) because I couldn't get a C:\ prompt, which would enable me to copy one file from a CD to the C drive.  Just a C:\ prompt, that's all I asked. Could I find one? No. Grrrr. Thanks Bill. (It was Service Pack 3 wot dun it.)

Eh?

What happened when you open an Explorer window and just type C:\ into the address bar?

"Windows cannot open because this file is missing or corrupt

WINDOWS\INF\BIOSINFO.INF

You may be able to repair this fault. Press f11 at startup for recovery module then select 'r' for 'repair."

...on a black screen. And that's it. And the recovery module essentially enables you to go back to square one, and that's it. Which is what I ended up doing, after wasting a lot of time downloading/burning allegedly brilliant boot-CDs from the web, none of which seemed able to give me something as simple as a basic C:\ prompt.

You think that's bad!?

I run research MRI scans, where we are scanning subjects for students PhD projects. Every so often you need to press a button on the scanner keyboard that allows you to talk to the patient. One PhD student that I work with has a habit of leaning over to talk and putting her hand on the electrical kill switch! This then means we have to wait 20 minutes whilst we restart the scanner and re-position the subject!

When she is in the department, we now make sure something is covering the button (still easy to press in an emergency of course!).

Thankfully, it is only the electrical kill switch and not the Quench button, that would mean the scanner would be out of action for a couple of weeks!:biggrin:
