A FEMALE cyclist says she’s lucky to be alive after she crashed into a car door opened suddenly by a motorist.

Lindsay Seeto is still recovering from injuries sustained in the incident on Ridge St at Greenslopes.

Ms Seeto said she was riding to work when a young female driver opened the door of her parked car.

“I know there’s always a risk that someone’s going to open their door so I keep an eye out for it,” Ms Seeto said.

“Most people, generally speaking, look over their shoulder to check before they get out of the car, or the door will only open a little bit and then open fully. But this girl, she flung the door open completely.”

Maybe its different in Australia but in the UK being parked in the cycle lane isn't considered bright and throwing your door open and causing an accident is definitely the motorists fault. Still its nice to see they have the same morons we do.

Road Tax = "Rego"

New one for me!
No, they're different, in Australia at least. There is no road tax as such, since income taxes and fuel taxes go into consolidated tax revenue, which is then used to build and maintain roads, and there's never been any proven connection between fuel taxes and road funding (I believe the term here is: hypothecation). As for "rego" aka car registration fees, these pay for registration, i.e. numberplates, the cost of administering registration, etc. and nothing more, and these registration fees don't even begin to pay for roads. In short: Australian motorists' sense of ownership of Australian roads is completely fallacious and caused by ignorance.

It was the way that it is used that I was referring to

While the motorist should have looked before opening, the cyclist did herself no favours by riding in the door zone. She is almost hitting the car mirrors as she tries to stay within that wasted paint known as a cycle lane. You should always keep out of the door zone, which often means taking over the entire lane and holding taffic up.

I've not watched the vid so I don't know what the lane is like.

Hell, across in Northampton the cycle lanes are actually built into the door zone alongside parked cars, or Death Zone as the local cyclists affectionately refer to it.

What kind of government goes to all the effort of installing cycle lanes, then let's cars park in it?

I thought all of them did that.
Here's one I pass daily...
