taken off last night and won't be back on for a bit.

In good visability with me in bright yellow (and a helmet) cyling along at the edge of the cycle lane driver pulled out in front of me. Bike and I flew across bonnet and hit road. just about had time to get half a swear word out.

They at least stopped (company van) and we exchanged details. they took me anf bike to AnE which I thought for a couple of minutes I wouldn't need but quicky decided it would be a good idea. X rays show a clearly broken collerbone. Bike's in better shape than I am - slightly buckled wheel might be all. Will take to bike shop soon for full checkout.

Guess there is little point in contacting company direct? and go straight for the lawyers? or is it politer to be in touch first.

Don't know how I could have avoided this one. I was as wide out and visible as the road allowed, and had been watching them I thought driver had seen me.

2nd - Specialist Lawyers! I guess the three things they'll want to know straight away are - did the driver admit liability, were there any witnesses and did plod attend?

Have the police been contacted? If not, get onto it.

As it's your collar bone, you'll be off the bike for a while. Hope you heal quickly though.

Definitely report it to the police as soon as possible - in fact the driver of the car has a legal obligation to report any accident involving injury to another person to the police.

Agree with all others. Make sure it is reported to the plod and get a specialist cycle laywer on the case

Two specialist lawyers that get recommended a lot are the CTC ones, Russell Jones and Walker (?), and Alyson France of Bikeline who I'd pick personally.

If you're not already a CTC member, join up right now. Oh, and take as many pictures as you can at any accident - vehicle positions, driver's face, etc. Make notes of any skidmarks, broken glass, etc., juction positions, you name it, if you can that is.

Oh, rotten luck. Hope you heal quickly and it proves easy legally. Certainly get onto the police sharpish.

I wonder if it would generally be better to insist on an ambulance in such a circumstance, unless perhaps you were miles from anywhere and it would take ages to come. Paramedics should be able to check you over at the scene in case of neck/back injuries, and if you suffer some delayed reaction on the way to A and E they'll be on hand to deal with it... Still it was good of them to take you (how sad is it that one has to think that?)

Thanks for the support and advice, especially John, I think I'm ok at the moment but the offer is much appreciated.

Reported to the plod - in person within 24 hrs which is a right palaver.
contacted lawyer who will get back to me

and bike in the shop nothing looking too serious.

now I wait and try not to fret too much unril I can get back on the road.
