Right,I had these on my road bike, ohh 20 years ago.....

I'm in the possesion of a nice steel frame, stripped all the paint off it and want to do a retro styled road bike. It had lugs for downtube shifters, if I get friction ones could I use either shimano or campag on a campag rear mech? I'd assume yes as there is no indexing.
Next question, can you buy them at the LBS? I've seen plenty on the bay, but dont know if the bosses are the same for either make? Also, if I buy some of the band on ones, I'll jjust be able to take them off the band? Right?

Cheers,
Pete.

You can use any system or combination of systems with friction shifters. All shifters are a standard fit in the frame bosses.

Hi Ratty

I have a pair of very nice campag ones that you can have for ten quid plus p&p if you are interested. They're off my old winter trainer which is out of commission at the moment.

PM if interested.
