Not sure how to attach this mudguard to the downtube of a Raleigh Mustang.

i.e. whether the tie-wrap should go over the gear cable runs or between the cable and the downtube.

Either way the cables are gonna rub against the tie-wraps, right?

Maybe I should make some new holes for the tie-wraps further away from the centreline of the mudguard.

Thanks

UPDATE: I've now tried:
1. tie-wraps over the gear cables
2. tie-wraps between gear cables and downtube

Both options rub against the gear cables when I tighten up the tie-wraps... I think I'll need to make some fresh holes in the mudguard then go over the gear cables.

Is replacing the corroded cables next on your list of jobs?

On that question, does anyone know if I need to take the covers off the shifters to replace the gear cables? Or can I just snip the old cables , remove and thread the new cable starting at the shifter ends?

tbh i found down tube mudgaurds not much use compared to mudgaurds that sit closer to the wheel

The original front mudguard became so brittle over the years it just cracked and fell off, that was 10 years ago. This downtube guard was a freebie so I can't complain 👍.

In reality downtube mudguards are less useful than a chocolate teapot, which you can at least eat.

Unfortunately I only had 1 gear cable at home, so I've replaced the rear gear cable since that one gets much more use than the front.
