It's the "anti cycling" brigade at it again, the problem is they do not appear to have too many active brain cells because if they did they would have realised the danger to dogs, small children wearing thin soled shoes, adults wearing trainers etc. I honestly believe the kind of people who try and sabotage cycle routes with nails, tacks or even wire do not think about what they are doing, they are so obsessed with trying to stop cyclists they simply do not look beyond the end of their nose.
You want to be careful on sandbeds then.

There is nothing to suggest the tacks are aimed at cyclists. It could be someone fed up of dogs crapping all over the prom.

As for the car on the pavement. I wouldnt be surprised to hear that the cyclist knew the driver. Drivers dont often go to that extreme for a stray cyclist.
 
It used to happen on the Wirral Way near me. It got some press coverage and a regular copper on a bike up and down it and it stopped. Probably one of the old crusties who objected to it becoming shared use.
